Advanced Arthritis Relief Protocol (AARP)

The Advanced Arthritis Relief Protocol ™ (AARP) is a non-surgical approach to the treatment of knee pain caused by Osteoarthritis. The AARP program utilizes non-surgical hyaluronic acid injections, using guided fluoroscopy, with specialized knee bracing and a comprehensive physical therapy program. The treatment is covered by Medicare and an FDA-approved therapy.

We Provide Advanced Pain Relief Therapy in a 4 Step Program

  • Viscosupplementation Therapy
  • Hyaluronic Acid Knee Injections
  • Fluoroscopy (Guiding Injection)
  • Knee Bracing & Rehabilitation

Viscosupplementation Therapy

Viscosupplementation is a procedure, whereby a gel-like fluid called hyaluronic acid is injected into the knee joint. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the synovial fluid surrounding joints. It acts as a lubricant to enable bones to move smoothly over each other and as a shock absorber for joint loads. People with osteoarthritis have a lower-than-normal concentration of hyaluronic acid in their joints. The theory is that adding hyaluronic acid to the arthritic joint will facilitate movement and reduce pain.

The most recent research, however, has not found viscosupplementation to be effective at significantly reducing pain or improving function

Fluoroscopy (Guiding Injection)

Fluoroscopy is an imaging technique that utilizes X-Ray to obtain real-time moving images of the internal structures of a patient. Fluoroscopes are an invaluable tool in the treatment and care of Osteoarthritis of the knee. They provide immediate and vivid internal imagery of the patient clearly demonstrating the joint space of the knee.

Fluroscopic technology also allows for the performance of an arthrogram. An arthrogram is a series of joint images performed with the use of contrast medium. The clinician performs the procedure utilizing a fluoroscope to guide the placement of the needle in order to inject the appropriate amount of contrast medium directly into the joint capsule.  Incorporating this diagnostic tool into our AARP injection technique, not only increases positive patient outcomes dramatically, but also builds in a robust reimbursable component to every care plan.

Hyaluronic Acid Knee Injections for Osteoarthritis

Your body makes hyaluronic acid. It’s a natural part of the fluid that helps lubricate and cushion your joints and keeps them working smoothly.

When you have osteoarthritis (OA), the hyaluronic acid in the affected joint thins. Hyaluronic acid injections add to your body’s natural supply. These injections are “viscosupplementation,” which literally means they help the fluid in your joints.

Knee Bracing & Rehabilitation

Unloading Braces are utilized to help Osteoarthritis. With cartilage loss, the knee deviates from normal anatomical position. Our Unloading Knee Brace has been shown to increase joint space; reducing pressure on the cartilage of the knee and knee capsule. This unloading effect allows the viscosupplement of choice to bond with the body’s existing synovial fluid with greater ease; resulting in both faster and longer lasting positive patient outcomes.

An Unloading Brace, stabilizes the knee in such a manner the areas of compression are unloaded and the symptoms are greatly or completely reduced.
